ghost bread
awesome ghost bread
this is so yummy and it's good for impressing your relatives that come over for dinner. but make sure you have an adult to help you, 'cuz you have to use the oven.
ingredients:
  • slices of cheese (this time i used cheddar slices - the pepper jack melts REALLY fast!)
  • slices of bread (pumpernickel works well - it helps to have bread that contrasts with the color of the cheese)
  • lots of butter
  • garlic powder (optional if you're a vampire - though i hear that's a fib!)

directions:
  1. preheat the oven to 350°
  2. spread slices of bread with butter (as many as you want)
  3. place the bread slices on a cookie sheet covered with foil (that makes it easier to clean up!)
  4. sprinkle buttered bread with garlic powder (optional, but i like it!)
  5. take a ghost-shaped cookie cutter and cut a ghost shape out of a slice of cheese (make as many as you have bread slices)
  6. using the end of a straw, punch out eyes in the cheese ghosts
  7. place a cheese ghost on each slice of bread
  8. have an adult put the cookie sheet in the oven and bake until the cheese is melted - about 5 minutes
  9. now make the adult take out the cookie sheet (make sure they're using oven mitts - they forget sometimes!) and using a spatula, transfer ghost bread to a nice platter
  10. eat them all!
makes several slices of ghost bread.

i would suggest that you keep the adult occupied making more ghost bread after the first batch comes out. that way you can eat them all and they're always hot out of the oven. oh, yeah, you can also use other cookie cutter shapes, too.
